MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Quezon City on Wednesday appealed to the national government and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to help them as the confirmed cases of coronavirus disease continue to rise in the city.
“We are appealing to DSWD and national government na from April 6 to 12 tulungan kami sa Quezon City para magprovide ng pagkain sa mga mamamayan na nawalan ng kabuhayan,” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a press conference on Wednesday.
(We are appealing to DSWD and national government from April 6 to April 12 to help us provide food to our citizens who could not work due to the enhanced community quarantine.)
She explained the city would be needing more funds as they will be using most of the funds for hospital equipment.
“’Yung ikaapat na linggo medyo magkukulang na po ang pondo ng lungsod sapagka’t ang Quick Response Fund natin ay 400 million lang ata,” Belmonte said.
(On the fourth week, our funds will be insufficient because the Quick Response Fund is only at 4 million.)
“We have other things to take care of tulad ng hospital equipment at iba pang pangangailangan sa patungkol sa pagtugon sa sakit,” she added.
(We have other things to take care of such as hospital equipment and different medical needs.)
To date, there are 29 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Quezon City. This is 15 percent of the 193 confirmed cases recorded by the Department of Health.
