DOTr says private vehicles can transport plane passengers to airports

Update

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Tuesday private vehicles are allowed to transport airline passengers amid the suspension of all modes of transportation implemented under the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

In a message to reporters, Transportation Assistant Secretary Goddes Hope Libiran said foreigners can go to airports using their private vehicles provided that they have proof of their travel.

“Pwedeng ihatid sa airport ang isang foreigner na may flight palabas ng bansa using a private vehicle, provided na may proof na may flight talaga sya, and that they strictly observe social distancing,” Libiran said.

Filipinos may also use a private vehicle to fetch their relative at the airport but they, too,  should show proof.

“Pwedeng sunduin sa airport, using a private vehicle, ang isang Pilipino na dumating sa bansa, provided na may proof na magsusundo talaga sya, and they observe social distancing,” she said.

In a text message, Libiran said only one companion is allowed per passenger.

She also confirmed any passenger can be transported to the airport through private vehicles as long as there is proof showing that the passenger will be transported to the airport.

The transportation department earlier allowed all airline passengers, regardless of their nationality, to leave the country within 72 hours upon effectivity of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine unless their trips are canceled by airlines or the Civil Aeronautics Board.
