Sorsogon placed under state of calamity due to COVID-19

LEGAZPI CITY –– Sorsogon province declared Tuesday a state of calamity due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Sorsogon’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recommended the declaration “due to the localized COVID-19 transmission” in the country.

As of this writing, Sorsogon has no confirmed case of COVID-19, no person under investigation, and 38 persons under monitoring, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

Following the declaration, Sorsogon City also declared a state of calamity.

In a post through social media, Sorsogon Governor Francis Joseph “Chiz” Escudero called on the DOH to establish clear guidelines in testing vulnerable members of the population like the elderly and the immune-compromised.

“These vulnerable persons and not just anybody, regardless of social status or position, should be prioritized,” he said./lzb
