Quezon province declares state of calamity

LUCENA CITY—A state of calamity has been declared in Quezon province for fear of novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

Gov. Danilo Suarez announced the declaration at a task force meeting on Tuesday (March 17).

Suarez, in a phone interview, said the calamity declaration would “strengthen our proactive response in our battle to stop the virus from spreading in the province.”

He said the provincial government also wanted to be ready for any eventuality should COVID-19 threat continue.
