PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – A state of calamity has been declared and authorities have enforced tight “enhanced community quarantine (ECQ)” as it bids to keep coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from infecting the city.
Mayor Lucilo Bayron, in a public announcement early Tuesday, followed suit on President Duterte’s orders and placed Puerto Princesa City under a state of calamity, temporarily suspending mass public transportation “effectively immediately.”
All domestic land, sea, and air farers who are in transit will be allowed to enter the city subject to home quarantine.
Border checkpoints will also turn away residents of other municipalities, temporarily closing all entry points starting from 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, to Saturday, April 14.
Bayron also appealed to the public to strictly observe the quarantine guidelines that suspended mass gatherings, imposed home quarantine, and initiated curfew hours.
Some 20,000 bags of rice are ready for distribution any time needed, he added./lzb
