UP calls for donations of protective equipment for PGC

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP) is asking for donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) for members of the Philippine Genome Center (PGC), who are tasked to study COVID-19 samples for genetic sequencing.

“The PGC laboratories of the University of the Philippines are tasked to handle the sequencing of COVID-19 samples for the next two weeks, in coordination with the health workers from UP Manila National Institutes of Health, to provide our scientists with crucial scientific information to mitigate the spread of the disease,” read the statement posted on UP’s official Facebook page.

The PGC workers, who are now working as a skeletal group, need PPEs including N95 masks, surgical masks, disposable impermeable laboratory gowns and caps, face shields and shoe covers.

The university is accepting supplies from Monday to Friday at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the lobby of PGC building at A. Ma. Regidor Street, National Science Complex, UP Diliman Campus, Quezon City.
