Tacloban bans alcoholic drinks as it prepares to fight COVID-19 spread

TACLOBAN CITY- Mayor Alfred Romualdez on Sunday (March 15) banned the sale, purchase and consumption of alcoholic drinks and operation of cockpits, movie houses, internet shops and massage parlors as the city arms itself with measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Romualdez also ordered travellers entering the city to register and undergo tests for COVID-19 symptoms. Those who would refuse tests would be denied entry.

Romualdez, in EO No. 2020-03-016, also barred mass gatherings.

Violators would be meted up to P50,000 in fine and imprisonment of not more than six months.

Romualdez said he would do everything in his power to make Tacloban City safe and free from the virus that causes COVID-19.

He had also suspended all classes from March 13 to 20. Several schools in the city had conducted disinfection procedures in their facilities.
