CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Mayor Ferdinand Salalila of Sta. Rita town in Pampanga province wrote an open letter to his constituents informing them that the town has 50 persons under monitoring or PUMs for COVID-19.
Salalila said the PUMs either came from novel coronavirus-hit countries or came in contact with persons suspected of having the contagious respiratory disease.
The mayor had advised disinfection, social distancing, and good hygiene in the town.
He also ordered the prohibition of all forms of mass gatherings, such as sports events, dance parties, flea markets, bingo socials, beauty pageants, talent competitions, variety shows, and singing contests.
The COVID-19 outbreak emerged in China’s Wuhan City in Hube province in late 2019. It is caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2.
The World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 a pandemic since it has infected more than 150,000 people and killed nearly 6,000 all over the world. The Philippines has so far confirmed 140 people with COVID-19, including 11 deaths.
