MANILA, Philippines — All Ayala Malls in Metro Manila will be temporarily closed starting Monday in line with the imposition of a community quarantine in the capital region due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a Facebook post, the mall operator said its establishments offering basic services such as supermarkets, drugstores and convenience stores will remain open.
The company’s malls in Metro Manila include Alabang Town Center, Glorietta, Greenbelt, U.P. Town Center, Ayala Malls The 30th and Ayala Malls Vertis North.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday night placed Metro Manila under quarantine, barring travels to and from the National Capital Region from March 15 to April 14 in a bid to reduce close contact between people.
As of posting time, the Philippines has 140 COVID-19 cases, 11 of whom died while five have recovered.
The disease is spread through small droplets from the nose or mouth when people infected with the virus cough or sneeze.
The World Health Organization declared the disease as a global pandemic after it killed nearly 5,000 people and infected 110,000 others worldwide.
