Ilocos Norte placed under community quarantine to keep COVID-19 out

MANILA, Philippines — In a bid to keep Ilocos Norte free of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc has placed the province under “community quarantine.”

In his Executive Order 60-20 signed Saturday, Manotoc asked local governments to abide by the directions of the Departments of Health and Interior and Local Government in imposing general community quarantine in their respective jurisdictions.

General community quarantine refers to limiting movement of people to just accessing basic necessities and work. Uniformed personnel and quarantine officers are likewise mandated to be present at border points.

The province will deny entry to all individuals entering Ilocos Norte with symptoms of COVID-19 unless they are residents of the province, the EO said.

Metro Manila has been placed under a month-long community quarantine as COVID-19 cases in the capital region continue to rise.

Other local government units with at least two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in different localities are advised to be placed on quarantine.

The Philippines, meanwhile, has had 111 COVID-19 cases, of which eight have died, two recovered, and 101 remains admitted.
