Masses shortened to 30 minutes in Tagbilaran

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol –– Masses here have been shortened to 30 minutes to reduce the chances of exposure to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among the parishioners.

But there would be more schedules of Masses to prevent big congregations in churches, said Diocese of Tagbilaran Bishop Abet Uy in his FaceBook post.

The Diocese of Talibon headed by Bishop Dan Parcon would also take the same preventive measures against the virus in his diocese.

Based on Uy’s FaceBook post, homilies and prayers of the faithful would be cut short to keep the Masses within 30 minutes starting March 15.

The changes also include the omission of the procession of offerings, singing of the Psalms and some hymns.

In a video message, the prelate said the pandemic provides an opportunity to be closer to God.

“The COVID-19 crisis provides us special opportunities to turn back to God, to care for our neighbors, and to give nature the needed rest,” he said.

“Let us protect one another. Continue to pray,” he added./lzb
