Top Bicol schools emptying classrooms, shifting to online classes to ward off COVID-19

LEGAZPI CITY — State universities and college in Bicol are emptying their classrooms and implementing alternative methods of learning for students to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Helen Lara, president of Sorsogon State College, has ordered suspension of classes from March 16 to 28.

Teachers were told to implement home-based and distance learning schemes for students to cope with lessons.

Classes will resume on March 30. The school will also adopt the four-day work week for employees.

Catanduanes State College president Minerva Morales also ordered suspension of classes on March 18for disinfection of offices and classrooms.

Arnulfo Mascariñas, president of Bicol University in Albay, directed all faculty members to prepare alternative learning activities for students in case of class suspension.

Students and teachers on self-quarantine will also shift to online classes and other alternative learning methods.
