A student in the United Kingdom tried to cash in on the shortage of sanitary items amid the novel coronavirus pandemic by selling “squirts” of hand sanitizer.
The teenager’s mother, Jenny Tompkins, took to Facebook on March 11 to share to the public what his son had done that got him “expelled from school for the day.”
“Well the little turd has just been expelled from school for the day after been caught charging students [50 Pence Sterling] (around P32) a squirt for hand [sanitizer] to protect [themselves] from the bloody [coronavirus]!!” the mother stated.
“Very hard to discipline this [behavior] when his dad phones him from work to call him a f*cking legend,” she added.
Tompkins noted that his son was able to make £9 (around P580) from the shortlived business, which enabled the boy to buy a multipack of chips and saved enough to buy a kebab.
The mother’s post, which has so far garnered over 217,000 reactions and more than 197,00 shares, comes as the UK and several other countries experience shortages of basic cleaning necessities amid the pandemic.
In England, meanwhile, an arcade owner decided to replace teddy bears and toys with hand sanitizers, soap and toilet paper as prizes for claw machines. A 10-year-old boy also saw a business opportunity amid the outbreak and created a stand to sell homemade “CoroNO Gel” hand sanitizers on the streets of Texas in the US.
In Japan, the government announced that it will punish persons who resell face masks for profit as the country is gripped by shortages of such items brought about by panic buying. /ra
