MANILA, Philippines – The number coding scheme for both private and public vehicles in Metro Manila has been lifted starting Friday, March 13, 2020, “until further notice”, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced.

“Just In: Number coding (Private and Public vehicles) is now lifted starting this hour until further notice,” MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said in a text message.

The number coding scheme, also known as the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) is implemented to reduce the volume of vehicles plying Metro Manila roads by banning certain motorists at certain hours depending on the last digit of  license plates.

The suspension of the number coding scheme came a day after President Rodrigo Duterte placed Metro Manila under community quarantine amid the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) threat.
