SC shuns work suspension in courts amid coronavirus scare
MANILA, Philippines — Though work in some government offices have been suspended to arrest the spread of the new coronavirus, court operations will continue like clockwork.
Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta however released guidelines for court employees in the face of the spread of novel coronavirus or COVID-19.
Under Administrative Circular 26-2020 signed by Peralta, among the measures imposed by the high court is limiting the visitors in courts and those entering the courts have to fill up a declaration form.
“All those with official business in the courts may be allowed entry to the halls of justice and courtrooms. All those entering the halls of justice must be subjected to a no-contact thermal scanning, and those found to be suffering from fever, flu, colds, and cough shall be prevented from entering,” read the guideline.
Aside from filling up a declaration form, court users will be subjected to a no-contact thermal scanning and those suffering from fever, flu, colds, and cough shall be barred from entering.
The high court also reminded that all courts must be properly ventilated and sanitized daily especially frequently-touched fixtures.
It also said that persons deprived of liberty who have hearings must be brought back to their detention facilities immediately after court proceedings.
On the other hand, those required to undergo mandatory or voluntary quarantine shall be covered by the Civil Service Memorandum on availment of leave privileges.
Meanwhile, Peralta told executive and presiding judges to monitor their respective personnel and workplaces and immediately report to the Court of Administration any development regarding COVID-19.
“The Office of the Chief Justice is closely monitoring the situation nationwide. Further advisories shall be issued as may be deemed fit,” read the circular.
