PUERTO PRINCESA CITY –– Palawan has recorded two new persons under investigation (PUI) for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) bringing the total number of PUIs in the province to three.

Dr. Mario Baquilod, regional director of the Department of Health (DOH), said the two new PUIs were isolated in a government hospital in the city.

One of the new PUIs is a 23-year-old male from Rio Tuba, Bataraza, who recently traveled to Pasig City, where confirmed COVID-19 cases were recently reported.

He was flagged as a PUI because of his local travel history and after showing symptoms of cough and fever.

The other new PUI is a 30-year-old female Australian national who traveled here for vacation. She was categorized as a PUI based on her travel history and after having a fever on Wednesday afternoon.

“For now, the PUIs are stable. They were mostly categorized as PUIs because of their travel history, but they are stable and not in distress. Nevertheless, we want to rule out COVID-19,” said Dr. Melecio Dy, provincial hospital director.

Swabs will be collected and sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.

Meanwhile, the test result of the first PUI, who is being treated in a private hospital, was expected to be released Thursday afternoon.
