First coronavirus cases recorded in Mindanao, Visayas — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — The coronavirus disease, or COVID-19, has reached the Visayas and Mindanao with two cases being confirmed in those areas — the two being part of the 16 new confirmed cases that the Department of Health reported earlier on Wednesday during a press conference.

According to the DOH, one patient was admitted to a hospital in Cagayan de Oro and another was admitted to a hospital in Dumaguete City.

Specifically, patient number (PH) 39 is a 64-year-old Filipino male, who was admitted to Ace Dumaguete Doctors Inc. on March 3 and tested positive for the disease this afternoon. DOH said the patient traveled to Greenhills in San Juan which the first local case of the disease — PH 5 — also frequented.

PH 5, a 62-year-old Filipino man, would often go to the Muslim prayer hall in San Juan.

Meanwhile, PH 40 is a 54-year-old Filipino man who has no travel history and is currently confined at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center in Cagayan de Oro.

As of this writing, the DOH was determining the place of residence of the two patients.
