LUCENA CITY –– The local government of Mauban town in Quezon province has temporarily closed Cagbalete island, a tourist destination in Lamon Bay, for two weeks to prevent the spread of the dreaded coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Vice Mayor Marivel Trinidad, who is now acting local chief executive, said the temporary closure was recommended by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) to prevent possible human-to-human transmission of the virus.
A copy of the Memorandum Order Numbers 038-2020 was posted on Monday on the Facebook page of “Mauban News,” the official publication of the local government.
The closure of the island and other tourist spots in the locality for both domestic and foreign tourists would start on March 10 and end on March 23.
But the order may be extended or lifted earlier upon the recommendation of the municipal health officer.
“The two-weeks period will help health personnel and other concerned agencies to monitor and assess local situation and will give time to prepare for a long-term plan to protect the municipality and its people from the national threat,” the memorandum explained./lzb
