PNPA alumni homecoming postponed due to coronavirus surge

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police Academy’s (PNPA)  annual alumni homecoming has been postponed due to the growing number of coronavirus disease 2019  (COVID-19).

PNPA Alumni Association Board of Trustees chairman Police Brig. Gen. William Macavinta on Tuesday said that the event, which was originally scheduled from March 12-15, will be “postponed to a later date.”

“This is due to the declaration of state of public health emergency by the President. We will inform you of the development taking the cue from the Department of Health,” he said in a statement.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 24, President Rodrigo Duterte himself announced on Monday.

The DOH has also raised Code Red Sublevel 1 over the weekend after it confirmed the country’s first local transmission of the disease.
