MANILA, Philippines – Marikina City on Monday confirmed its first case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“Mayor Marcelino ‘Marcy’ Teodoro says an 86-year-old senior citizen living in Marikina City, who recently traveled to South Korea, tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The mayor has ordered massive disinfection in the city,” the Marikina City local government unit said in a text message sent to reporters.
“Mayor Marcy says he will issue a memorandum for the strict compliance of disinfection in schools, malls, and other public spaces,” the LGU added.
The patient from Barangay Marikina Heights is one of the 10 individuals who have so far tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.
Earlier in the day, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte also revealed that the city has also recorded a case of COVID-19.

Like the case in Marikina City, the patient Belmonte was referring to is also one of the 10 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
The DOH on Sunday confirmed four new COVID-19 cases in the country, bringing the total to 10, including one death on February 1.
