MANILA, Philippines — Residents of a town in northern Italy may have taken a few steps back when they opened their faucets to see red wine flowing from their taps.
According to a report by CNN on Sunday (local time), a “faulty valve in the washing circuit within the bottling line” of a local winery in the Italian town of Castelvetro caused the leak of around 1,000 liters of wine into water pipes.
The town’s deputy mayor, Giorgia Mezzacqui, told CNN that red wine leaked from the resident’s taps for three hours and “impacted about 20 homes.”
The leak, however, did not pose any health risks, the local government said on its Facebook page, according to CNN.
“At a time where we have very little to smile about, I’m glad we brought some levity to others,” Mezzacqui was quoted as saying in an interview with CNN.
“Hopefully, someday they’ll remember us and will want to come visit us,” the deputy mayor added.
