Man surveilled for pistol-whipping yields cache of guns, bullets

ILIGAN CITY——Police on Wednesday (March 4) arrested during a raid a 21-year-old man for keeping unlicensed guns and ammunition at home in the town of Tudela, Misamis Occidental province.

The raiding team was enforcing a search warrant issued last March 3 by Judge Rio Concepcion Achas of the Municipal Trial Court of Cities Branch 2 in Ozamiz City.

Capt. Roland Donor, Tudela police chief, said Rex Obut, single and jobless, had been subject of a complaint last December for pistol-whipping. The case led to information about Obut’s cache of guns after Obut was put under surveillance.

Seized at Obut’s house were a .38 caliber revolver, a 9 mm pistol, ammunition for assault rifles, a silencer, six rifle grenades, cartridge cases for bullets for 9 mm and .45 caliber guns and Armalite rifles and several magazines.

Donor said Obut denied owning the guns and bullets, pointing to a supposed friend of his in the Army who had these brought to Obut’s house for safekeeping.

Obut, however, could not identify the Army man and faces charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
