Suspected rebels gun down ex-barangay chief in Ifugao
BAGUIO CITY –– Suspected rebels on Monday killed a former barangay captain in Tinoc town in Ifugao province, authorities said on Wednesday.
Initial investigation said the unidentified assailants killed former barangay captain Joseph Calabson, 47, inside his house at Barangay Tukucan in Tinoc town.
Calabson’s wife Maya had told investigators that one of the suspects, who was wearing eyeglasses, fired the first shot on her husband’s forehead.
Maya said another suspect, clad in black, also fired at her husband several times.
Investigators recovered four copies of a letter from the Nona del Rosario Command of the New People’s Army in Ifugao, allegedly accusing the victim of providing vital information to the government and “harboring” Army soldiers in his house.
Diana Domingo, the victim’s sister in law, said one of the suspects pointed his gun at her forehead when they met her at the doorway on their way out.
