Man locks wife in bathroom thinking she has COVID-19

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise and spread around the globe, a man in Lithuania decided to lock his wife in their bathroom because he feared she may have contracted the novel coronavirus.

The wife, name withheld, called the police after getting locked up in their apartment in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius, as per Daily Mail on March 2. Law enforcement rushed to the scene to handle the situation.

The husband, name also withheld, reportedly told authorities that he locked his wife inside the bathroom after “consulting on the phone with doctors” on how to avoid getting infected.

The man’s action came about after his wife met with a Chinese woman who recently traveled to Italy, the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in Europe.

Italy has around 2,500 people infected, while 79 people have died so far — the highest number of deaths in any nation outside of China. 83 people, however, have fully recovered, according to Italian health authorities.

After testing, the wife came out negative of COVID-19, according to the report. She will not press any charges against her husband.

More than 90,000 people have been infected while over 3,100 have died from COVID-19, according to the World Health Organization. Ian Biong/JB
