MANILA, Philippines — The trough of a low pressure area (LPA), which is being monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), will bring rains over Visayas and Mindanao in the next few days, state weather bureau said Tuesday.
In a live weather update, weather specialist Ariel Rojas noted that there is a slim chance that the LPA, which is located 1,680 kilometers southeast of Mindanao, will become a typhoon.
“As of 3 p.m., an LPA formed outside of PAR. There is a low chance that the LPA will become a typhoon,” Rojas said in Filipino.
“Its trough will possibly cause rains in some areas of Visayas and Mindanao in the next few days,” he added.
Rojas said the northeast monsoon or “amihan” is still affecting extreme Northern Luzon; specifically, it will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains caused by easterlies, he said.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies will be experienced in Visayas and Mindanao due to the easterlies. The weather bureau warned possible flash floods or landslides in the said areas.
