LEGAZPI CITY –– The Social Security System (SSS) in Bicol would release at least P1.8 million worth of benefits to over a hundred involuntary separated workers in private establishments in Bicol.

Nilo Despuig, SSS Vice President for Luzon-Bicol Division, said that under the unemployment benefits program, 166 private workers separated from their jobs would receive the financial package depending on their salaries.

The unemployment benefits program was one of the salient features of the Social Security Act of 2018, which took effect on March 5, 2019.

Qualified to avail are SSS members, not more than 60 years old at the time of involuntary separation, has paid at least 36 monthly contributions, 12 months of which should be in the 18 months immediately preceding the month of involuntary separation, and haven’t received any unemployment benefit within the last three years before the date of involuntary separation.
