MANILA, Philippines — Allegations that China has been using the Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) as fronts to spy on the country is already being investigated by the police, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
The claim stemmed from the observation of Senator Richard Gordon following the murder of a Chinese online gaming worker in Makati City at the hands of alleged members of the People’s Liberation Army.
PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said the police force is already looking into the matter, noting that many Chinese nationals have become involved in many criminal activities.
“Isa na rin sa tinitingnan ng PNP ngayon dahil na rin sa pagdami ng mga Chinese nationals na nagta-trabaho sa mga Pogos ay dumami rin ang bilang ng krimen na kinauugnayan ng mga Chinese nationals. Patuloy ‘yan na tinitingnan ng PNP,” Banac told reporters in an interview.
Banac added that there is no proof yet that members of the PLA have infiltrated the POGOs in the country for the purpose of gathering intelligence information.
