MANILA, Philippines—The chief of the Women and Children Protection Office on Friday urged Janelle Manahan, the girlfriend of slain actor Ramgen Bautista, to file a complaint with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in order to help her track down the source of the sex video.
Speaking to reporters at the CIDG office in Camp Crame, Quezon City, Superintendent Emma Libunao said that the Anti-Transnational and Cyber Crime Division of CIDG has the capability to track down the first computer used to upload the sex video in the Internet.
“Iniimbitahan namin si Janelle na magpunta at mag file ng kaso. Nangangako kami na matutulungan namin s’ya, [We are inviting Janelle to go (to CIDG) and file a complaint. We promise that we can help her,]” Libunao said.
However, she said that they can only work on the case if there will be a formal complaint that will be filed before them.
Meanwhile, Libunao warned that those who were able to get a copy and passed it on to others can also be held liable to the crime for being an accessory to the scandal, saying that their computer forensic laboratory also have the means to track distributors.
She, however, said that in order to avoid such compromising circumstance which put someone’s integrity, especially those of the women, at stake, she appealed to the public to just refrain from taking videos like this as erasing the file doesn’t guaranty that it cannot be retrieved anymore.
“May mga paraan ang mga ‘techy’ na ma-retrieve ang mga files na nabura na dati. May mga ganyang kaso, [Tech-savvy people have the means to retrieve files that have been deleted. There are cases like that],” she said.
Last year, she said that there have been 10 similar cases of sex video scandal that have been filed with the women’s desk of CIDG, saying that most were perpetrated by men against their girlfriends who want to break up with them.
