‘Illegal’ security groups protecting VIP foreigners, mostly Chinese — PNP-CSG

MANILA, Philippines — Illegal security agencies are now giving special protection to foreigners, who are mostly Chinese nationals, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Civil Security Group (CSG) revealed on Saturday.

“Foreigners mostly Chinese availing of unauthorized protective agents. Kung saan nagwo-work Hindi pa namin alam. But mostly, not authorized to have protective agents,” PNP CSG chief Maj. Gen. Roberto Fajardo said in a text message.

Fajardo added that they are still checking if these unauthorized security groups have clients who work in Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs). The CSG is also looking at records to check if these unlicensed security groups are using illegal firearms.

The PNP-CSG is tasked to “exercise administrative and operational control over firearms, explosives and private security industries.”

In an earlier statement, Fajardo ordered all CSG regional chiefs to coordinate with their respective local police units to crack down on all illegal protective personnel and unlicensed protection agencies that give VIP security, especially on foreigners. The CSG said illegal security agencies operate in violation of Republic Act 5487 or the “Private Security Agency Law.”
