MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Davao Occidental in the early hours of Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake struck at 3:13 a.m., 187 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town.
Phivolcs said that the temblor was of tectonic origin, and had a 130-kilometer depth of focus.
The earthquake, according to Phivolcs, was also felt in other areas at various intensities:
Instrumental Intensity II- Tupi, South Cotabato; Alabel and Malungon, Sarangani
Instrumental Intensity I- General Santos City; Kiamba, Sarangani; Koronadal City
Phivolcs warned that aftershocks may occur.
