Duterte appoints new NBI officer-in-charge
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has named National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Assistant Director Eric Bito-on Distor as the agency’s officer-in-charge, Malacañang announced Wednesday.
Distor was appointed following the retirement of NBI Director Dante Gierran, Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.
“There is a new officer-in-charge of the National Bureau of Investigation following the retirement of the director. It’s Mr. Eric Bito-on Distor effective February 23,” Panelo said in a press briefing.
Distor was NBI’s Assistant Director for Intelligence Service prior to his new designation.
Meanwhile, Gierran served as NBI chief since appointment in 2016.
