QC gov’t employees to get pay increase starting March

MANILA, Philippines — Employees of the Quezon City government, both contractual and job-order, will get an increase in their take-home pay starting March.

This is after QC Mayor Joy Belmonte signed a memorandum providing that 4,539 contractual personnel and job-order employees will be remunerated at least P13,000 per month.

The move came after learning that some employees, particularly community health workers, are getting as low as P8,000 per month, despite working 40 hours or more a week

Positions in health centers remain vacant due to low wage rates, Belmonte also noted.

“It is our responsibility, especially us in the government to adhere to the law and give our employees dignified and equitable working conditions. Lahat ng manggagawa ay dapat magkaroon ng kakayahang makabili ng kanilang pangunahing pangangailangan,” Belmonte in a statement on Wednesday.

Under Memorandum Circular 2020-004, which will be fully effective starting March, non-plantilla contractual and job order personnel who are classified as administrative clerical, and non-technical employees, and work up to 40 hours a week will get P13,000 per month.

Meanwhile, professional-technical employees such as nurses, medical technologists, veterinarians, computer programmers, and accountants will receive P20,000 per month; and the professional-highly technical personnel like lawyers and doctors will be paid P35,000 per month.

“We will offer competitive rates that are at par with the private sector to encourage more applicants who possess remarkable qualities and who will be valuable assets to our city,” Belmonte pointed out.

The QC local government said it has allocated P201 million for the implementation of the salary increase.
