Policemen rescued on Monday night two Chinese nationals allegedly being held captive in a room at a posh resort in Pampanga by a compatriot and a Filipino cohort over their 170,000 RMB (P1.236 million) debt. The Philippine National Police antikidnapping group (PNP-AKG) said the Chinese victims were hired and flown into the country for jobs as computer technicians but were instead made to work as dealers at online casinos. PNP-AKG spokesperson Maj. Ronaldo Lumactod Jr. said the victims refused to continue working as dealers but were held captive until they paid off the cost of airfare and other costs for their stay. The suspected kidnappers were identified as Chinese national Zhu Li and her Filipino cohort Julius Tumolva. Both were arrested and now in the custody of the PNP-AKG. —Jeanette I. Andrade
