MANILA, Philippines — “You can’t please everyone.”
That was the reaction of Senator Grace Poe, chair of the Senate public services committee hearing the franchise of ABS-CBN, on the remark of Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano that her panel’s hearing was just an “attendance” for those who want to suck up to the country’s largest media network.
“Well, opinyon niya yon. Pero sa tingin ko naman marami dito sa atin ang mas naliwanagan kung yun ang opinyon ng iba,” Poe told reporters after the hearing on Monday.
(Well, that’s his opinion. But I think, a lot of us here were enlightened about the opinion of others.)
“Di naman lahat mapapaligaya sa mga ginagawa mo, you can’t please everyone,” she added.
(You cannot please everyone with what you’re doing; you can’t please everyone.)
Cayetano had earlier questioned the hearing, arguing that it would go against the Constitution as franchise bills must first emanate from the lower chamber before it can be tackled in the Senate.
Poe’s committee conducted the hearing on the network’s franchise as the House of Representatives has yet to act on the pending bills before it.
