The municipality of Cebu became a city by virtue of Commonwealth Act No. 58.
In June 1964, Republic Act No. 3857 took effect, amending the city charter.
Cebu was once a sleepy fishing village and eventually became a trading port.
In 1575, Cebu became the first Spanish settlement named Villa del Santisimo Nombre de Jesus or the City of the Most Holy Name of Jesus.
Cebu City had P33.89 billion in assets in 2018.

Article continues after this advertisementThe Siocon Watershed Forest Reserve in Siocon town, Zamboanga del Norte province, was declared as protected area through Proclamation No. 84 signed by then President Joseph Estrada.
The peripheries of the 612-ha. forest reserve are declared as buffer zone.
In September 1987, the Siocon Watershed Forest Reserve was established under the control and supervision of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through Proclamation No. 155 signed by then President Corazon Aquino.
According to the proclamation, it aims to be a water source for agriculture, domestic consumption and other forestry purposes.
