BACOLOD CITY –– Three women, including two senior citizens, and a minor died in a vehicular accident along the national highway in Barangay Tortosa, Manapla town, Negros Occidental on Friday, February 21.
Jeljuredi Labrador, 15, and Angeles Salmorin, 83, were declared dead on arrival at the Ikaayong Lawas Foundation Hospital in Victorias City, and Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City, respectively, while Dolores Granada, 83, and Delina Abana, 56, also died while being treated at the CLMMRH.
The investigation showed that a Mitsubishi Mirage driven by Froilan Samillano bumped into a motorcycle parked along the road where Labrador was sitting at 2:45 a.m. on Friday.
Samillano’s vehicle dragged Labrador before hitting the gate of a residence along the highway.
Captain Jaynick Bermudez of the Manapla Police Station said three of Samillano’s passengers died, while two others identified as Anabelle Estil, 39, and Rolinda Barte, 77, were injured.
Samillano, who suffered minor injuries, was detained at the custodial facility of the Manapla Police Station pending the filing of charges against him.
Bermudez said the passengers of Samillano, who came from Isabela town, were on their way to seek treatment from a faith healer in Cadiz City when the mishap took place.
