Seven-year-old Julian Emmanuel Borromeo has just started a 12-cycle chemotherapy treatment prescribed by doctors at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC).
In October 2018, the 7-year-old boy was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia, a blood disorder.
Borromeo’s mother, Elvy, said she first suspected something was wrong with him when he became pale, feverish and unable to walk for days.
“His stomach also grew bigger. He was not eating for days. In fact, when we brought him to a hospital in Caloocan City, we were already in a panic asking doctors that an ultrasound be done immediately. But we were referred to PCMC because they had no equipment,” she added.
It turned out that Julian’s spleen was swollen, prompting doctors at PMPC to confine him.
“My son is scheduled for a bone marrow test later this month. His spinal region will also be checked to see if there is unwanted fluid around it. Otherwise, the third chemotherapy session will go on as scheduled,” Elvy said.
