MANILA, Philippines — The Makati City government on Thursday urged residents to be vigilant and on the lookout for establishments being turned into prostitution dens amid numerous police raids against such

“Please continue being watchful, concerned, and involved. This is our community and everyone’s safety and security are at stake. We want to make sure that Makati remains a safe place for all of us,” Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said in a statement.

Binay urged “Makatizens” to use the Makatizen App, which has 15,000 users, to report crimes and illegal activities to Makati City Hall and the Makati City police.

Binay said most of the police operations launched against sex dens in the city stemmed from anonymous tips.

Last week, authorities uncovered a spa and cafe which were being maintained as prostitution dens. More than 30 women were rescued during the operations.

Binay likewise ordered the city’s Business Permit and Licensing Office to shut down entertainment spots linked to or involved in  human trafficking.

“We will hunt down prostitution dens, karaoke bars, spas, condominiums, and even computer shops that exploit young men and women in the sex trade,” Binay said.
