MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Education has announced that classes in three schools along the route of Monday’s Black Nazarene procession will be suspended to give way to the activity.

In an advisory Thursday afternoon, DepEd suspended classes on January 9 in the Apolinario Mabini Elementary School, Geronimo Santiago Elementary School and Ramon Avanceña High School “to ensure the safety of pupils and students.”

Millions are expected to join the procession of the Black Nazarene that will pass by the schools.

Classes in the schools will resume on January 10.
