MANILA, Philippines—Authorities on Thursday said that a person died and 11 others were injured after a Philippine Army truck hit a van in Mindoro Oriental early Wednesday.
Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina said that the Army truck with license plate SJE538 driven by Corporal Eddie Cenal was driving along Liedo village, Victoria, Mindoro Oriental, around 5:30 a.m. when Cenal lost control of the vehicle and entered the lane of the incoming Nissan Urvan van with license plate NWQ 662 driven by Richard Almazan.
Espina said that five of 12 Army passengers of Cenal were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment, while a passenger of Almazan, identified as Maribel Castillo, was declared dead on arrival by its attending physician.
Six other passengers of Almazan have also been taken to the hospital to be treated, Espina said.
