Cop shot dead inside Manila restaurant

MANILA, Philippines — A police officer was shot dead inside a restaurant in Malate, Manila Thursday night.

Staff Sergeant Roel Orihuela, 47, was watching a television program inside the restaurant along Arellano Ave. corner Don Pedro St. when he was gunned down by two gunmen who barged into the establishment at around 8:45 p.m., the Manila Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said.

The gunmen escaped aboard a motorcycle, while Orihuela was rushed by his brother to Ospital ng Maynila.

The police officer was declared dead on arrival.

Further investigation is ongoing.
