According to the Bureau of Immigration, it barred 38,522 travelers from leaving the country last year as part of an intensified campaign against human trafficking. This figure was 16 percent higher compared to 2018. About 85 percent or nearly 33,000 of these travelers were stopped at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City while the rest were intercepted at the airports in Mactan, Clark, Iloilo, Kalibo and Davao. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
