Occasional rains may prevail in Luzon, Metro Manila due to ‘amihan’

MANILA, Philippines – Residents in Luzon including Metro Manila are advised to still bring umbrellas as occasional rains may be experienced on Friday due to the northeast monsoon or amihan.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), generally fair weather is expected but rains may still persist, like the rains experienced in several parts of Metro Manila on Thursday.

“In the next 24 hours sa buong bahagi po ng Luzon kasama po dyan ang Metro Manila ay maaliwalas na panahon po ang ating inaasahan bukas, at posible lamang ‘yong mga mahihinang pulo-pulong pag-ulan, epekto nga po ‘yan ng amihan,” weather specialist Ana Clauren said.

(In the next 24 hours, the whole of Luzon including Metro Manila would experience generally fair weather, although light scattered rains are possible due to the amihan.)

“Kaya sa ating mga kababayan na lalabas ng kanilang mga tahanan, ‘wag pa rin po nating magdala ng payong bilang panangga sa panandaliang buhos ng ulan,” she advised.

(People who are heading out should not forget to bring their umbrellas to protect themselves from rain showers.)

In Mindanao, gloomy skies and light to moderate rains with thunderstorms are also expected due to the cloud bands forming over the country’s southern seas.  Pagasa has urged people living near mountains and low-lying areas to monitor their weather updates as the rains may cause flash floods and landslides.

Despite the high possibility of rains, Pagasa said that they are not monitoring any low pressure areas or storms that may enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the coming days.

As the northeast monsoon still affects the weather systems, temperatures especially in Luzon remain low, ranging from 12 to 23 degrees Celsius in Baguio City, 19 to 30 degrees Celsius in Laoag City, 18 to 31 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao City, and 19 to 28 degrees in Tagaytay City.

In Metro Manila, the lowest expected temperature is at 21 degrees Celsius, and the highest at 29 degrees Celsius.

No gale warning has been raised as of now, which means that fisherfolk using small sea crafts may set sail in any part of the country’s seas.  The condition in various seaports are expected to be smooth to moderate.
