LPA off Zamboanga City to bring rain over parts of Mindanao, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines — The trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) off Zamboanga City will bring rain over parts of Mindanao and Visayas within the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau’s forecast has shown.

In its weather bulletin issued 4 p.m. Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was last seen 235 kilometers southwest of Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.

The LPA’s trough will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, Davao Region, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas.

Pagasa warned that flash floods or landslides are possible in these areas due to scattered moderate to at times heavy rains.

The LPA, however, is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression, Pagasa noted.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or amihan is expected to bring overcast skies with light rains in Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Marinduque, Romblon, and Mindoro provinces within the next 24 hours, according to Pagasa.
