Several firearms, live ammunition, and fragmentation grenades were found inside the suspects’ headquarters.

The suspects are now jailed at the detention facility in Palo, Leyte.

House Deputy Minority leader and Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate, with his fellow Bayan Muna Rep. Eufemia Cullamat, strongly condemned the early morning raid.

“The raid followed the same pattern of mass arrests then the filing of trumped-up charges based on planted evidence of illegal possession of firearms and explosives,” Zarate said in a press statement.

He said the recent raid was “part of the renewed crackdown on progressive groups in the country.”

Zarate and Cullamat demanded the immediate release of the five arrested suspects./lzb
