Chinese boy suspected of nCoV isolated in Palawan

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — A one-year-old Chinese boy was being isolated at the Palawan provincial hospital, after showing flu-like symptoms possibly related to novel coronavirus (nCoV).

Dr. Mario S. Baquilod, director of the Department of Health in Mimaropa, said the Chinese family, who came from Dalian City in China, initially refused to be tested for nCoV.

“This morning, our infectious specialists were able to convince the parents to submit the one-year and 11-month old boy’s specimen to be verified by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine,” he added.

The foreign family was in El Nido town last weekend for a vacation when they brought the baby to a private municipal hospital for fever and rashes, initially diagnosed as measles.

They were transferred to hospital here last Saturday as the medical professionals were alerted of their travel history, following the protocol set by DOH.
