MANILA, Philippines — Thirty police officers were apprehended for allegedly violating traffic laws and the Anti-Carnapping Act in simultaneous law enforcement operations conducted nationwide on Monday, Feb. 3.
According to data from the Philippine National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP IMEG) released to the media on Tuesday, 133 individuals violated traffic laws, 30 of whom are police officers.
Meanwhile, 101 are civilians, one a jail officer and one a member of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Among the areas included in the operations were: National Capital Region Police Office Headquarters, Southern Police District Headquarters, Cavite Provincial Police Office, Pampanga Provincial Police Office, Angeles City Police Station, and Police Regional Offices in Calabarzon, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The nationwide operations had checked a total of 6,126 motor vehicles and motorcycles.
Most of the violators — 55 — had expired registrations of their vehicles and 22 of them had no driver’s licenses.
The police officers who were apprehended will be issued with a temporary operator’s permit, the PNP-IMEG said.
It added that they will also face administrative charges depending on the gravity of their violation.
