Did You Know: February is National Dental Health Month

/ 04:00 AM February 04, 2020

National Dental Health Week is observed from Feb. 3 to 9 yearly by virtue of Proclamation No. 235 signed on Jan. 24, 1951, by then President Elpidio Quirino.

The proclamation highlighted the importance of raising dental health consciousness among Filipinos.

In 2004, it was expanded into a monthlong celebration led by the Philippine Dental Association by virtue of Proclamation No. 559 signed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

According to the annual report of the Field Health Services Information System of the Department of Health, a total of 3.56 million adolescents and youth from 10 to 24 years old were given basic oral health care in 2018.—Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
