DEAD DOLPHIN FOUND ASHORE
A DEAD dolphin was found along the shore of barangay Canlumacad, Santander town in southern Cebu on Jan. 1, New Year’s Day.
PO2 Anthony Aba of the Santander police precinct said someone called them up to report the discovery of the dead dolphin by an unnamed fisherman at 6:30 a.m. last Sunday.
Aba said the dolphin had scratches and bruises in its body. He said they believed that a seacraft rammed the dolphin, resulting in its death.
Carmelina Gumilac, fishery technician of Santander’s agriculture office, said the dolphin’s injuries may not be intentional. She said the dolphin may have hit a rock due to strong waves.
Gumilac said the dolphin may have also come from the Tañon Strait. The dolphin, she said, was estimated to be between 1 to 2 years old, weighs 30 kilograms and measures 62 inches long and 35 inches wide.
Gumilac said the dolphin was buried in barangay Canlumacad./Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
