3 teens nabbed for guns at Masbate checkpoint

LEGAZPI CITY –– A teenager and two minors were arrested in Masbate City after police found they were carrying firearms and a knife at a checkpoint on Saturday morning.

Police Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, identified one of the suspects as Jerome Moro, 19, resident of Barangay Polot. Moro’s companions were both 16-year-old males.

The suspects were on board a motorcycle when flagged down by policemen manning a checkpoint at Barangay Espinosa in Masbate City at 2:40 a.m.

During the search, police found a .22 caliber pistol, a homemade shotgun (sumpak), a fan knife (balisong), and 11 live .22 caliber bullets.

The suspects are facing charges for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and a bladed weapon.

The two minors would be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development for disposition, while the adult suspect would be jailed at the police detention facility in Masbate City./lzb
